The Cariolaro brothers started in the paper sector in the middle of the 1930s. At the beginning they worked the sack paper after which they produced for self-consumption. For this purpose they took over the management of a mill in the Vicenza area in the 1940s. There, they used waste paper and straw for the production of packaging paper. At the end of the 1940s a paper machine was set up in Carmignano for the production of kraft paper and later of paper for textile use with high technical characteristics using both waste paper and virgin fibres. At the beginning of the fifties a new, bigger paper machine was installed in Carmignano to make lighter paper for food packaging. In the early sixties, the Cariolaro brothers built a new paper mill in S. Pietro in Gu where they manufactured extensible kraft paper for large capacity sacks. In the eighties the first paper machine was left off and the focus was on the second machine in Carmignano in order to produce 100 % recycled printing paper, which was an innovation at that time. From 1984 to 1998 several new machines have been added: a double wire, a high technology deinking plant, a speed sizer and a soft calender for 100 % recycled coated printing paper, absolute innovation in the market and completion of the printing paper range.
