The environmental label "Blue Angel" was created in Germany in 1977.
The Blue Angel promotes the concerns of both environmental protection and consumer protection. Therefore it is awarded to products and services which are particularly beneficial for the environment in an all-round consideration and which also fulfil high standards of occupational health and safety and fitness for use.
The Blue Angel environmental label is the property of the German Ministry of the Environment.
The BLUE ANGEL is the only certification for a truly 100% recycled paper. The label certifies the following points:
- the paper is made from 100% post-consumer papers, of which 60% at least are from average or low quality papers;
- the exclusion of certain chemical products which are known as being dangerous for human beings or the environment: bleaching without chlorine or without halogeneted bleaching agents, use of colouring agents containing no mercury, lead, cadmium, nor chrome 6.
Cartiere Cariolaro obtained in 1986 the Blue Angel RAL-UZ 14 (Recycled papers) label for their printing papers Polar, Editor and E-2000 all produced with 100% waste paper without the use of optical brighteners and chlorine.
In 2011 Cartiere Cariolaro obtained the Blue Angel RAL-UZ 72 (Printing and Publications papers) label for the printing papers Libra and Biancasilk, produced with 100% waste paper and without chlorine.
